“Call A Friend” EP | Lukae Review
Written by Charlie Falconer.
From strictly creating bright and funky tunes, Lukae steps out of their comfort zone and brings us
something different with their debut EP “Call a Friend” that lets their walls down and welcomes us
into their mind.
Lukae is a non-binary indie pop artist from Meanjin (Brisbane, Australia). Lukae wanted to shift
from masking emotions in a happy song to creating something more authentic and real. Because of
this shift, the EP is a direct contrast to their previous songs “When I’m With You”, “Fake it” and
“One Night” as it delves deeper into the more complicated and emotional side of life and
relationships.
Throughout the entirety of the EP, the instrumentation has a toned down lo-fi acoustic vibe.
Intertwining this with Lukae’s direct and honest lyricism, each song creates a mood worthy of a
reflective nighttime drive or a cozy night in. Either way, you’re bound to connect.
Both “Call a Friend” and “Never End” carry remnants of Lukae’s previous upbeat style while still
holding onto to that heartfelt energy. With “Never End” being the last song on the EP, the gradual
build into the upbeat instrumental with Lukae’s atmospheric vocals overlayed ties it all together,
finishing the EP on an optimistic note.
Lukae’s debut EP, “Call a Friend” will be released on the 28th of January 2022. They have already
released one of the songs, so if you’re interesting in getting a sneak peak of how the EP will play
