Celebrating Small

Something Different Project have spread their name out into the Brisbane music scene the past few months and this past Saturday night, they teamed up with The Flutter Folk to put on a show at Lefty’s Music Hall called Celebrating Small!
Celebrating Small brought together creatives, creators, artists and small business all together for one night to showcase some of Brisbane’s finest.
This amazing night of supporting locals was heavily driven by the aim of supporting issues on more of a global scale with a portion of the proceeds being donated to the Hey Mate Project. The Hey Mate Project provides mental health support and education for individuals and organisations within the creative industries.
Kami kicked the night off on the stage and it was the perfect set to let patrons grab their first drink and get comfy whilst looking at the live art being done up by Germ and Over_it_man.png. For the people not checking out the live art of brilliant handful of vendors and listening to Kamis beautiful acoustic set, they would’ve been treated to his soulful covers including my personal favourite cover he performed, Sobercoaster by Beddy Rays.
Sourmash were up next on stage and they managed to fill up the open floor within 5 minutes of playing. Their whole set had people hand banging to their tunes. After their set, they definitely got on a few people’s radar from providing Lefty’s with constant raw energy from the stage all through to the crowd.
As people were going strong downstairs, the same could be said for upstairs. Plenty of people were upstairs checking out the vendors including Amy Jane, Lola Handmade, Crie Cosmetics and Claudia De Salvo. These vendors gave punters a wide variety of pieces to purchase, from make up through to handcrafted jewellery and mugs. As well as these vendors, patrons could find some of the amazing work from Max Wenke, Max had a collection of prints available that everyone had their eyes glued to throughout the night.
Back downstairs where Tragic Me were taking stage. Tragic Me seemed to take the level Sourmash had and took it up just a few more levels. They provided everyone with a healthy dose of some heavy rocking tunes whilst also slowing it down and serving us with a cover of Happier Than Ever which got everyone in the venue singing along.
Seal crowds were being formed downstairs around the No One Network table, where a large collection of their merch were being sold, everything from hats, bags to shirts were on show with the iconic No One Network logo. Gabi Rankine also had some prints up for sale, her large collection of outstanding prints caught everyone’s eye as they walked into the venue.
MoZza closed the stage for the night and what an amazing job they did. They had the crowd shoulder to shoulder dancing throughout Lefty’s. Dressed right for the event in all formal wear, MoZza played out crowd favourites including Home and Take Me By Surprised. They definitely made sure everyone had their dancing shoes on when they belted out Lovefool.
Celebrating Small was a very successful night to say the least. Being able to showcase some of Brisbane’s awesome local creatives whilst being able to raise proceeds for the Hey Mate Project should be seen as a massive success and something that both Something Different Project and The Flutter Folk should both be so very proud of.
